Day is Done, Year is Done 2011

Old Goats.. Ages..bottom to top.. 15,14 and 13 years old.  The young one closest is a VERY spoiled bottle baby that has had two kiddings and is an excellent mom.. but always has an opinion..

Evening of 12/31/2011.. goats are going home.  It has been 65 degrees here with some very "lively" winds.  Only 40 something tomorrow... One day closer to spring!!

Almost Christmas

What amazing weather we are having for mid December here in Central Missouri.  I was able to actually take a nice long walk through the pastures and check the fences.  Then since it was turning out to be such a nice day I decided to open the gate to the summer pasture and let the goats get some of that green grass we still have.  The weather is supposed to turn more seasonal tomorrow..  We shall see what happens.  John is outside getting ready to BBQ some pork steaks..  I think this is a first for us this time of year, but it is 60 degrees this afternoon.

The Mother Road "Route 66"

I travel on a small portion of "The Mother Road" going to and from work. Here are a couple shots of what I see.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Route_66
Birthplace and rise of Route 66

Modern-day shield used in California from 1956 – 74, when the road was decommissioned (note the black background cut off and the addition of the "US" designator)

Officially recognized as the birthplace of U.S. Route 66, it was in Springfield, Missouri on April 30, 1926 that officials first proposed the name of the new Chicago-to-Los Angeles highway. A placard in Park Central Square was dedicated to the city by the Route 66 Association of Missouri, and traces of the "Mother Road" are still visible in downtown Springfield along Kearney Street, Glenstone Avenue, College and St. Louis streets and on Missouri 266 to Halltown.

Buzzard's Hang Out

Every fall the buzzards gather on this (about a mile from our house) Conservation Fire Tower.  This is a light day, on a good day the tower can be black with the perched birds with an even larger group circling.

Old Barn

Everyday we are loosing the grand old barns of the area.  This barn has a huge "belly" where the center beams are breaking down.  Took this picture yesterday afternoon as we took a drive down the gravel roads.

August Evening

Now that it's not a 100 degrees everyday and we have had some rain all the critters are coming out checking out the new grass.  John has been busy for the last week using the bush hog on the fields, he still has several more days worth of tractor driving...

An Interesting Rock...

This rock was a gift to me.  Colleen sees things in rocks and brings them to life.  Colleen's husband is our mailman.
